Peggy Lou (Poe) Bates of Wadsworth, Ohio passed away peacefully after 98 years of life at Altercare in Wadsworth, with her children by her side on March 4th, 2025.
Peggy was born on October 28th, 1926, to Charles and Juanita Poe in Garrettsville, Ohio. She was the youngest of 6 children. Her eldest brother Harry Richard died as an infant. Sisters Madge, Jane, and Mary Louise were next, with her brother James, born six years before Peggy rounded out the Poe family.
Peggy's Grandmother, Emma Jane Poe was a big influence in her life teaching her how to read at an early age and pretty much spoiling her every which way she could. As they did back then, Grandmother lived in the home with them, so the two were best of friends.
She grew up in Rittman, Ohio participating in many activities including playing the drum, taking dance lessons, and becoming a majorette and cheerleader. After graduating from Rittman High School, she attended Ohio University where she studied business and was voted to
